Overview

The Excellence in Radio Awards is an internationally recognised benchmark of excellence for programming, radio talent, marketing & promotions and advertising. All categories will be rewarded with the specially created Excellence in Radio Awards (ERA) trophy. The results for the annual ERA will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the JW Marriot, Mumbai on 19th May, 2010.

Entries Submission
Please download the instruction manual on how to build your entries. It contains what is required for each category submission. All submitted material must have been originally broadcast between 16th February, 2009 and 15th February, 2010. Submission closes on 18th March, 2010 with all Awards materials submitted to the address below:

Be A Judge
The extensive panel of judges will be multi-disciplined calling on radio, advertising, television and creative professionals. This will ensure impartiality access to expert opinion and broad based judging. Click here to register as a ERA judge.

PROGRAMMING
CATEGORY
P1   Best Breakfast Programme/Show (Hindi)
This category is designed for breakfast shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Hindi.
 
P2   Best Breakfast Programme/Show (Tamil)
This category is designed for breakfast shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Tamil.
 
P3   Best Breakfast Programme/Show (Telugu)
This category is designed for breakfast shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Telugu.
 
P4   Best Programme Broadcast After 11am (Hindi)
This category is designed for programme/shows AFTER 11am that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Hindi.
 
P5   Best Programme Broadcast After 11am (Tamil)
This category is designed for  programme/shows AFTER 11am that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Tamil.
 
P6   Best Programme Broadcast After 11am (Telugu)
This category is designed for  programme/shows AFTER 11am that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Telugu.
 
P7   Best Radio Programme (Bengali)
This category is designed for programme/shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows and from any timeslot are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Bengali
 
P8   Best Radio Programme (Gujarati)
This category is designed for programme/shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows and from any timeslot are eligible to enter are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Gujarati.
 
P9   Best Radio Programme  (Kannada)
This category is designed for programme/shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows and from any timeslot are eligible to enter are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Kannada.
 
P10  Best Radio Programme  (Hindi – For Non-Metro Stations)
This category is designed for programme/shows that deserve particular recognition for their high standard, originality, professionalism and innovation. Entries from weekday or weekend shows and from any timeslot are eligible to enter are eligible to enter. The show must be predominately broadcast (more than 50%) in Hindi.
(Metro Stations in this category refer to stations based in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai.)
 
P11   Best Radio Sparkler (Hindi)
Sparklers used in conjunction with a programme/show to enhance the brand identity of the programme.  Sparkler must be broadcast for at least 3 months.  A selection of 5 sparklers (of same character) taken over 5 different weeks must be submitted. Each sparkler must be 120 seconds or less.

T12   RJ of the Year (Hindi)
This category is for a Hindi speaking radio DJ /presenter who deserves particular recognition for their overall presentation style, use of music and rapport with their audience.
 

T13   RJ of the Year (Tamil)
This category is for a Tamil speaking radio DJ /presenter who deserves particular recognition for their overall presentation style, use of music and rapport with their audience.

 

T14   RJ of the Year (Telugu)
This category is for a Telugu speaking radio DJ /presenter who deserves particular recognition for their overall presentation style, use of music and rapport with their audience.

 
T15   RJ of the Year (Bengali)
This category is for a Bengali speaking radio DJ /presenter who deserves particular recognition for their overall presentation style, use of music and rapport with their audience.
 
T16   RJ of the Year (Gujarati)
This category is for a Gujarati speaking radio DJ /presenter who deserves particular recognition for their overall presentation style, use of music and rapport with their audience.
 
T17   RJ of the Year (Kannada)
This category is for a Kannada speaking radio DJ /presenter who deserves particular recognition for their overall presentation style, use of music and rapport with their audience.
 
T18  RJ of the Year (Hindi – For Non-Metro Stations)

PROMOTION & MARKETING CATEGORY
M19   Best Radio Promo - In-House (Hindi)
Internally created single station spots of 90 seconds or less broadcast in Hindi. (The use of syndicated or custom-produced music is allowed, providing it does not contribute “substantially” to the creative impact of the entry.)
 
M20   Best Radio Promo - In-House (Tamil)
Internally created single station spots of 90 seconds or less broadcast in Tamil. (The use of syndicated or custom-produced music is allowed, providing it does not contribute “substantially” to the creative impact of the entry.)
 
M21   Best Radio Promo - In-House (Telugu)
Internally created single station spots of 90 seconds or less broadcast in Telugu. (The use of syndicated or custom-produced music is allowed, providing it does not contribute “substantially” to the creative impact of the entry.)
 
M22   Best Radio Promo - In-House (Gujarati)
Internally created single station spots of 90 seconds or less broadcast in Gujarati. (The use of syndicated or custom-produced music is allowed, providing it does not contribute “substantially” to the creative impact of the entry.)
 
M23  Best Community Service Award
This category is for any social action initiative, campaign, programme or series through which radio has been used to affect the listening public in a positive way. The judges will be looking to recognise compelling, powerful programming with an impact that may have been made in fundraising, heightening public awareness & understanding of an issue, or in inspiring change in a community.
 
M24  Best Interactive Idea
This category seeks to recognise a new idea for on-air interaction where the listener is significantly involved in contributing to the editorial content of a radio programme. This could be through phone calls, e-mails, text messaging, debate or correspondence.
 
M25   Best Creative Campaign
This award recognises the station’s unique and innovative concept aimed at meeting business objectives effectively. The entries will be judged based primarily on creativity concept as well as media execution.
 
M26   Best Media Campaign
This award recognises the station’s effective use of available media and its role in the overall success of the campaign.
 
M27   Best FM Station
A single station's resume describing the station's strategy in a particular city, in terms of objectives, programming, promotions, charitable activities.
 
M28   Best On Ground/Activation by an FM Station
This award recognises a station's skills in creating and implementing an on ground activity that is integrated with the on air product as well (not a standalone on-ground event). The entries will be judged based on the concept of the on-ground activity, the station's ability to create relevant hype around the on-ground activity and the kind of integration with the on air product. Conceptualisation of on ground activity must be done in house.
ADVERTISING CATEGORY
A29   Most Effective Use of Radio in an Activation Campaign
This award is for the best use of Radio to augment the other marketing activities being undertaken for a brand. (Not for self promotions of the Radio brand) Advertisers, Media, Ad Agencies and Radio Stations can participate.
 
A30   Most Effective Use of Radio In An Ad Campaign
This award is for the best use of radio in communicating the benefit of a product or a service. Advertisers, Media and Ad Agencies can participate.
Submission fee for the Advertising Category (A29-A30) is waived for the first entry from each company. Additional entries will be charged as per regular entry fees.
